Cheltenham fab four closing in on places in Great Britain water polo squads for European Championships

Four of Cheltenham’s brightest water polo stars are hoping to represent Great Britain Under-20s at the European Championships in Portugal in August.

Louie McKie and Harrison Walsh are in the boys’ squad while Lily Ross and Zianna Wright are in the girls’ squad with the final selection for both taking place at the end of next month.

“It’s really good,” said James Ross, who is chairman of Cheltenham Swimming and Water Polo Club. “They’ve all been part of the Aquatics GB squad for a couple of years.

“All four are in the senior teams at Cheltenham which is exactly what we want. It’s fantastic.”

Cheltenham have long been one of the best water polo clubs in the land and their production line is showing no signs of slowing down.

“We’ve got six players at the start of the GB Under-18 programme, three in the boys’ squad and three in the girls’ squad,” added Ross.

The six, who are hoping to play in Under-18 European Championships next year, are Jake Taylor, Alfie Clarke, Hugo Rodriguez, Megan Ross, Alice Ross and Louisa Bourgia.
