Cameron Hoffman, 11, to take on triathlon to raise funds for good cause

Staff and volunteers at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham are continually inspired by kind-hearted supporters of all ages who do fundraising challenges to help keep the hospice running.
Their latest supporter – 11-year-old Cameron Hoffman from Abbeymead – is one of the youngest fundraisers to date.
Plucky Cameron is preparing to take on the challenge of a triathlon in memory of his mum’s friend Chris and dad’s friend Richie who were both cared for at Leckhampton Court Hospice.
Cameron is training hard in preparation for the Cheltenham Tri in the Park Junior Triathlon on Saturday 13th July, which will see him swimming 200m, cycling 4km and running 1,500m.
He was aiming to raise £250 for the hospice but has already exceeded that total and raised more than £700.
“I’m excited to complete my first triathlon,” said Cameron. “The hospice helps local people who are very poorly.
“My mum and dad have had young friends that have spent their final weeks of life in the hospice. They were given great care. My dad’s friend died there in November and it makes me realise I’m lucky to have both of my parents.
“Sue Ryder gives fantastic care to both patients and their families. I hope my support will help to make sure the hospice keeps going. People say that I’m an inspiration but I’m a normal boy doing a triathlon. I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me and my mum for helping me train.”
Kay Hoffman, Cameron’s mum, said: “My husband and I are just so proud of Cam. He is training extremely hard and has already smashed his fundraising target. Our aim now is to get him to the £1,000 mark. We are planning to hold a cake sale at school in July.”
Matt Reay, senior community fundraiser (events) at Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: “Cameron is one of our youngest ever supporters and we are really impressed with his hard work and incredible dedication.
“His support helps us to continue providing our expert and compassionate palliative care and being there when it matters for local families. Thank you and good luck in the triathlon Cameron!”
Cameron will compete in the Cheltenham Tri in the Park Junior Triathlon on Saturday 13th July at Pittville Park.
