Jack Hughes is the hero as Dursley Town win the Northern Senior League's Reg Davis Cup

Jack Hughes scored the only goal of the game as Dursley Town overcame Whaddon United in the Northern Senior League’s Reg Davis Cup final last night.

The in-form Hughes struck in the first half, scoring from close range following a corner.

“The corner was taken by Joe Gray and he chested the ball in after Sean Monday’s knockdown,” said Dursley boss Ben Deakin.

Hughes was also on target for the Division One leaders on Saturday when they defeated second-placed English Bicknor by the same scoreline.

Deakin, who is in his first season as a manager, was delighted with last night’s victory at Longlevens.

“It was an extremely good win,” said the 31-year-old. “It was very, very tough. I’d say we deserved it because we defended so well.

“They were the better side for the majority of the first half but we nicked a goal. After that we just stayed together, we were very compact, we defended all night.”

Dursley are without a game this weekend, while third-placed Whaddon host Bibury in a league game.
