Former Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn sends message of support to his ex-club
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 9th October 2025, 13:30
Former Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn has wished the club all the best for the future.
The 44-year-old ex-Newport County, Walsall and Swindon Town manager also thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to lead the side in League Two.
In a statement issued through the League Managers Association, he said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the board – David Bloxham, Paul Godfrey, Clive Gowing, and John Murphy – for giving me the opportunity to manage Cheltenham Town Football Club.
“While there have been challenges for us to contend with, I fully acknowledge that recent results have not met the standards expected.
“I would like to wish the club’s new owner Mike Garlick every success as he leads Cheltenham Town into a new chapter.
“I have no doubt that positive progress will follow, both on and off the pitch.
“My best wishes also go to Steve Cotterill, who returns to the club as manager.
“A heartfelt thank you to my staff and players for their hard work, professionalism, and commitment throughout my tenure.
And finally, to the supporters – thank you for your passion and loyalty. Cheltenham Town is a special club and I will continue to follow and support it with great interest.
“Up the Robins.”
Flynn, who took over as Cheltenham manager before the start of last season, was dismissed last month following a 3-0 defeat at home to Oldham Athletic, a defeat that left them with just four points from nine games.
Cotterill oversaw a 2-0 win at home to Fleetwood on Saturday, his first game in charge. The three points lifted Cheltenham off the bottom of table and into 22nd.
Cheltenham finished 15th last season.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
