Longlevens plan to celebrate Gloucester Premier title win on Saturday

It may not have been the way they wanted to win the Gloucester Premier title, but Longlevens are certainly enjoying the fact that they are champions.
And they are planning a big celebration on Saturday when they host Dings Crusaders 2nds in what is their final league game of the season.
“Yes, we’ll have a party,” said chairman Richard Bennett, a former prop who took on the top role only last year. “We’ve had a very good season.
“We should have played at Coney Hill on Saturday but they called the game off at 9pm on Friday evening.”
That gave Longlevens a walkover and the resulting five points kept them seven points clear of second-placed Clifton 2nds, even though the Bristol club thumped Old Cryptians 98-5.
Longlevens have lost just two league games all season, one of them against Dings Crusaders on the opening day of the season.
“They beat us by one point,” said Bennett, “it should be a good game on Saturday.”
Longlevens weren’t the only team to clinch a league title on Saturday because Matson were crowned Western Counties North champions after defeating nearest rivals Cheltenham 52-14.
That made it 24 wins out of 24 and they have just two games left to make it the perfect campaign.
Smiths are the impressive Gloucestershire One North champions after winning 29-22 at Berry Hill and Cheltenham Civil Service clinched Gloucestershire Two North with a 40-24 win over Stroud, while nearest rivals Bredon Star were losing 23-12 at home to third-placed Tewkesbury.
Dursley, who have long since claimed the Gloucestershire One South title, need to win their final league game at Ashley Down OBs on Saturday to make it 20 out of 20.
And Stow-on-the-Wold, who have enjoyed such a wonderful season in Southern Counties North, could clinch the title with two games to spare if they take more points from their match at home to Gosford All Blacks than second-placed Reading earn from their home fixture with Milton Keynes. It is Reading’s final league fixture of the campaign.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
