Injury forces Norton game with Widden Old Boys to be abandoned

Norton Rugby Club’s first home game of the season was abandoned early in the second half when one of their players suffered a nasty-looking injury.
Visitors Widden Old Boys were winning the Counties 3 Gloucestershire North game 12-3 on Saturday when the game was halted five minutes after half-time following an injury to fly-half Cam Brady.
“It was a back injury, it was quite bad at the time, he had a tingling down the legs,” said Norton chairman Gary Edgecombe.
Happily, the injury was not as bad as first feared and while Saturday’s league game at Matson 2nds is almost certainly too soon, it’s hoped Brady could be back in the reckoning for the home game with Bredon Star on Saturday 29th October.
Norton will be hoping that everything goes smoothly that day, of course, as they had to reverse their opening two league games because their Old Tewkesbury Road pitch was bone-hard.
“The pitch was good on Saturday,” said Edgecombe, who has been chairman for the past four years and on the committee since the club were formed in 2011. “We’ve had some rain and hopefully we’ll have some more before the game against Bredon.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
