Four teams chase trophy glory in Stroud Rugby Combination cup finals
Stroud District > Sport > Rugby Union
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 11th May 2017, 11:50
Four teams are represented in the two end-of-season Stroud and District Combination cup finals at Cirencester on Saturday.
Fairford will play Stroud 2nds in the Junior Cup (3.30pm) and Painswick will tackle Dursley 2nds in the Junior Plate (1.30pm).
Stroud 2nds booked their place in the final with a narrow 31-29 win at Tetbury on Saturday and they will not be short of support at Cirencester because a number of the club’s 1st XV are expected to be cheering them on.
Stroud president Russ Hillier said it was great to see four different clubs involved.
“It’s a nice way to end the season,” he said. “It brings all the clubs together and these two competitions give other players the chance to get some of the limelight.”
Dursley won the Senior Cup with a 38-0 win over Cirencester a couple of weeks ago while the Bill Adams Cup was won by Tetbury 3rds, who defeated Dursley 3rds 30-15.
Result:
Junior Cup semi-final: Tetbury 29-31 Stroud 2nds.
