British Rowing looking for stars of the future with half-term programme for teenagers
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 8th October 2024, 11:30
Fancy learning a new sport?
If the answer is ‘yes’, then there is an exciting opportunity for young people in Gloucestershire to take part in a Learn To Row programme later this month.
It runs over the schools’ half-term – Monday 28th October to Thursday 31st October – and will take place at Gloucester Boathouse.
The programme will be hosted by British Rowing's Gloucestershire Performance Development Academy (Talent ID Centre).
“With rowing being one of Team GB's most successful Olympic sports, this programme is designed to promote the sport and identify hidden talent across our region,” said Ben Jackson, a performance development academy coach in Gloucestershire for British Rowing.
“This Learn To Row programme will offer students in the region the chance to develop their skills in a sport that fosters teamwork, resilience and determination.
“It's a perfect opportunity for young people who might not otherwise have access to rowing to experience the sport first-hand.”
Former Hartpury student Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne, who won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in the double sculls alongside Becky Wilde, honed her skills in this part of the world and Jackson added: “We now hope to inspire more students to take up the sport and follow in her footsteps.”
The programme is for 13 to 16-year-olds and costs £20. To sign up, visit, https://sites.google.com/view/hartpuryrowing/about-us/learn-to-row/october24learntorowCopyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
