Rising Star: Jack Douglas, Brickhampton Court Golf Club
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Sunday, 18th January 2026, 09:00
Jack Douglas is a very impressive teenager.
The recently-turned 15-year-old is a keen golfer and is flourishing at Brickhampton Court.
He’s captain of their junior team, he plays for the men’s A team and he’s also a member of the Gloucestershire Golf Union Under-16 performance squad.
With a handicap of 6.2 he’s certainly making a big impact in the sport but there is a lot more to Jack than just golf.
That’s because last year he raised £4,000 for the Pied Piper Appeal, the leading children’s charity in Gloucestershire.
That was some achievement and one that was recognised around the county because he was presented with the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire Award as well as being named Gloucestershire Young Ambassador of the Year for 2025.
It was through his love of golf that he was able to raise the money after completing a 24-hour golf marathon around Brickhampton.
It took place on Saturday 21st June, but although it was the longest day of the year it meant he still had five hours of playing in complete darkness.
“I just played the par 3 fifth during the night,” he said. “I played 104 holes in 24 hours and must have played the fifth about 50 or 60 times!”
So how does he feel when he plays the fifth now?
“I think, ‘Oh no, not again!’,” he laughed.
Jack, who is also a member at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club, took up golf at a very young age.
“I started played properly when I was four,” he said. “I was swinging a plastic club in the back garden when I was two.”
Unsurprisingly, he comes from a golfing family. His dad Chris is a member of Brickhampton and Ross, and plays off around 15, while his sister Molly is in her first year at the University of Northwestern Ohio after being awarded a golf scholarship.
“She plays off five-something,” said Jack, a pupil at Newent School.
Jack wants to pursue a career in golf.
“I’d like to play on the Clutch Pro Tour while working as a teaching professional,” he said.
The Clutch Pro Tour is a premier UK-based developmental golf tour for aspiring players and Jack has a busy year ahead as he works on reducing his handicap.
Meanwhile, Molly, who is 19, took part in a 72-hole golf marathon a few years ago in aid of the Pied Piper Appeal, and it’s a charity that is very dear to Jack because he was close to its former chair Nick Broady.
Nick, who was diagnosed with MND in 2024 and sadly died on Christmas Day last year, was also a member of Brickhampton Golf Club and Jack said: “He was one of my mentors.”Other Images
