Whaddon United turn up the heat in Division One of the Northern Senior League
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 20th January 2026, 10:00
Whaddon United are back on top of Division One of the Northern Senior League after overcoming Cheltenham Civil Service 3-0 on Saturday.
They jumped ahead of Dursley Town, who went down 1-0 at third-placed Longlevens Reserves.
All three are very much in the title frame, as are fourth-placed English Bicknor, but while Whaddon boss Eliott Sheerin is pleased to be leading the pack he is certainly not getting carried away.
“There’s still a long way to go, the other teams have all got games in hand on us,” he said.
Whaddon, who have 12 matches remaining, have 34 points from 14 games, Dursley have 33 from 13, Longlevens Reserves have 29 from 11 and English Bicknor have 26 from 12.
Longlevens Reserves and English Bicknor are the only teams to have beaten Whaddon in the league and they both have return fixtures in Whaddon in April.
Whaddon have yet to play Dursley in the league this season so there is all to play for in the coming months and Sheerin was certainly pleased with the way his side played on Saturday.
Goals by Jordan Mitchell, Zack Hodges and a penalty by substitute Sam Oxley earned them the three points and Sheerin said: “We were good, we’d had a long break and it was about trying to get some momentum.”
Their previous game was on Saturday 29th November – they beat Bredon 4-1 – and Sheerin continued: “We’ve been training but it’s not the same as playing, I was quite surprised with how well we played.”
Whaddon have now got to wait until the end of January for their next game – they host Brockworth Albion on the 31st – but the games will come thick and fast after that.
“It’s annoying that we’ve got another break, but we’ve just got to keep ticking off the games as they come along,” said Sheerin.
“We’re confident we can beat all the teams in this division.”Copyright © 2026 The Local Answer Limited.
