Kieran Alder is the hero as Tuffley Rovers stun Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Worcester Raiders
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 2nd March 2026, 11:00
Kieran Alder scored his 50th goal for Tuffley Rovers as Neil Mustoe’s men secured a standout win at Hellenic League Premier Division leaders Worcester Raiders on Saturday.
Alder grabbed the winner after Tuffley had trailed 2-1 at the break. It was their fourth league win in a row, a run that started with a 3-2 success at home to high-flying Corsham Town at the end of January.
“It was a very good win, a very good performance,” said football chairman Dan Boon. “We were behind at half-time but by the 51st minute we were ahead and we managed the rest of the game well.”
The result was just that bit more eye-catching because Worcester Raiders had won their previous seven league games, including a 1-0 win at title-chasing Slimbridge in midweek.
“A few of us went to Slimbridge, so we got a feel of how they’d play against us,” added Boon.
Sam Kelly and Harley Mustoe were Tuffley’s other scorers – the game was switched to an artificial pitch – and Boon, a former player who has been with the club for 15 years, is delighted with their run of form.
They are seventh in the 20-team division and he said: “We’ve got a bit of consistency across the squad.
“We’ve added a couple of players. Our goalkeeper Anton [Robinson] has come in from Swindon Town on work experience and Eddie [Lewis] has come from Malvern on a dual registration.
“We’ve got a good management team. We tend to play 4-2-3-1 but we do mix it up depending on who we are playing.”
Tuffley, who were formed in 1929, have only seven league games remaining this season but Boon says there is plenty to play for.
They have 44 points from their 31 games and Boon said: “I think our highest points tally in the Hellenic League Premier Division is 51, so it would be nice if we could beat that.
“We’ve played more games than the teams around us but I’d rather have the points.
“We want to keep going and build for next season.”
Next up for Tuffley is a trip on Saturday to leaders Roman Glass St George, who jumped ahead of Worcester Raiders on goal difference after their 3-0 win at home to Pershore Town at the weekend.
“That’s another artificial pitch,” said Boon, “but we’re confident.”
