Teenager Alfie Mann sparkles in Dursley Town nine-goal super show
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 29th October 2024, 09:00
Teenager Alfie Mann scored four goals as Dursley Town enjoyed a great away-day at Tredworth Tigers.
The under-18 player was in red-hot form as he helped his side to an eye-catching 9-2 win, a win that keeps Dursley in third place in Division One of the Northern Senior League.
Tredworth’s management duo Lee Smith and Adam Dix left the club to take charge of Hellenic League Premier Division side Lydney Town last week but despite the final scoreline, the home side were in the game for much of the first half against Dursley.
“The first 40 minutes were tough,” said former Dursley player and club treasurer Neil Sharp. “We were 2-1 ahead and then we scored two goals just before half time and we got another two at the start of the second half."
And Mann, who was playing down the middle in a front three, was involved in the first six goals because he also had two assists.
“He was taken off after we’d gone 6-1 ahead,” continued Sharp, who also helps run the club’s ladies’ team. “He plays centre midfield for the under-18s, he’s not played many games for the first team but he was superb. He’s a small, nippy striker.”
Wide attacking player Ben Dolbear got three and there was one apiece for Billy Mann, the under-18 captain who is no relation to Alfie, and player/manager Karl Nash, who came on as a late substitute.”
The win leaves Dursley three points behind leaders Tewkesbury Town and Whaddon United, although they have played one game fewer than Whaddon.
Whaddon ended Dursley’s winning start to the league campaign with a 2-1 win at Dursley a couple of weeks ago, while Tewkesbury made it nine wins out of nine with a 4-1 win at home to Rodborough Old Boys at the weekend.
Dursley host Tewkesbury in a couple of weeks’ time and Sharp added: “The aim is to get into the County League.”
Dursley’s win at Tredworth came at a cost however, because Dolbear broke his leg while scoring his third goal, an injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Rory Hale and Anthony Rose are the new management team in charge at Tredworth, who play Tewkesbury in the final of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup at Stonehouse Town on Wednesday (7.30pm).Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
