It's been a special season, says Tewkesbury Town captain Nick Hill
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 11th May 2023, 12:00
As a scaffolder Nick Hill is used to heights and as a footballer he’s used to heights too.
That’s because, as captain of Tewkesbury Town, he has been on top of Division Two of the Northern Senior League for much of the season.
Tewkesbury won the title by an impressive seven points and are looking forward to playing in Division One for the first time in their history.
"This season has been very special, especially since Christmas when we won 18 games on the bounce,” said Hll. “That took the league away from everybody else.”
And Hill, who turns 30 in the next couple of weeks, is already looking ahead to the new campaign.
“It will be a challenge,” he said. “We’ve earmarked a couple of players we’re looking to add to the squad but we’re looking forward to it, there’s plenty of excitement.”
Tewkesbury conceded just 24 goals in their 28 league games – they scored 82 – and Hill, a central defender, believes their defensive solidity was a big part of their title-winning campaign.
“We didn’t concede many goals,” he said. “But the biggest factor was that after Christmas we used only about 20 players.
“We had a good nucleus of 13 or 14 who were available every week, that helped a lot.”Other Images
