Gala Wilton leave it late before grabbing the County League points
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 19th November 2018, 15:00
Gala Wilton recorded only their second win in the County League this season.
They beat Southmead CS Athletic, the team immediately above them, 2-1 although it was not enough to take them off the bottom of the table.
Gala began brightly and Jason Littleton had the ball in the visitors’ net early on, but it was ruled out for offside. Dan Creed then had two great efforts saved by the keeper before Southmead took the lead against the run of play through a Remi Ferguson free-kick.
That was in the 21st minute but Gala were level 13 minutes later. Steve Smith chased down the ball which he got to at the same time as the keeper with the ball ricocheting off the keeper and into the net.
Both sides created chances after the break and it was Gala who eventually snatched the points although they left it very late.
It was in the last minute of the game that Dan Creed sent Jason Littleton through on goal and he chipped the ball over the keeper.
Stonehouse Town remain in fourth place after a 3-0 win over AEK Boco. The home side opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Tim Williams went on a mazy run down the right before cutting inside and thundering the ball into the Boco net.
Liam Gale almost made it 2-0 just before the break as he weaved his way into a shooting position but Boco keeper Liam Jacques saved well. Right on half-time Stonehouse did score a second, after a free-kick from Tom Palmer was chested down by Jamie Spring who then volleyed past Jacques.
Stonehouse’s third goal didn’t arrive until the 85th minute when Liam Gale picked the ball up wide on the right in his own half, saw Jacques well off his line and hit a long shot which the back-pedalling keeper could not stop going in.
Second-placed Frampton United picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Wick and it took them to within four points of leaders Lebeq United who lost 1-0 at lowly Hanham Athletic.
Wick had the better of the opening 45 minutes but it was Frampton who went ahead 15 minutes from time when a superb pass out to Shaun Lawson allowed him to cross and Ryan Vincent to head home.
Frampton held on until the final minute when the home side were awarded a penalty and Shaun Morris converted from the spot.
