Gala Wilton have thrown themselves a County League lifeline after a fine 3-0 win at Southmead CS Athletic.

The victory lifts them off the bottom of the table – they are ahead of Southmead on goal difference – and with only one club being relegated following the withdrawal from the league of Kingswood earlier in the season, there is now all to play for.

Gala made the perfect start at Southmead and were ahead after two minutes. Ryan Dobbins was fouled 35 yards out and Jay Dare’s free-kick deceived the keeper and found the back of the net.

Sixteen minutes later they were two ahead when a looping ball into the Southmead box was well taken by Dobbins who controlled it and fired across the keeper and into the far corner.

And the visitors, who travel to play champions-elect Lebeq United in their penultimate game on Friday, made certain of the points in the second half when Dobbins slotted home a penalty.

Stonehouse Town, who still have a very slim chance of overhauling Lebeq, were impressive 4-0 winners at Broadwell Amateurs.

They were ahead in the 21st minute when Chris Earle cut in from the left and curled in a perfect low shot.

A brilliant five-man move on 28 minutes brought the second goal with Adam Philp sending in a low cross for Luke Soule to tuck away.

Into the second half and on 52 minutes the home side lost possession in midfield and Alex Kibble pounced on the loose ball and neatly chipped the keeper.

Four minutes later the home side lost the ball again in the middle of the park with Kibble picking it up, driving forward and firing home a low shot.

Mid-table Hardwicke pushed Lebeq all the way before going down 5-3.

Tom Collett put Lebeq ahead, but the visitors were level when James Ratcliffe cut in from the left and fired into the bottom corner. They then went ahead when Tobie Webb shot home from just outside the box.

Collett then scored his second and Lebeq were back in front before the break when Kristian Miller’s cross was fumbled by the keeper and the ball ended up in the net for an own goal.

Goals by Dan Payne and Kevin Camargo made the game safe for Lebeq but Hardwicke never gave up and Webb added his second before the finish.
