Two goals in the final 20 minutes earned FC Lakeside Reserves a 2-0 win over Malvern Vale and with it the Cheltenham League Minor Charity Cup at Bishop’s Cleeve last night.
They were the two form teams going into the final with Malvern top of Division Three and Lakeside the pacesetters in Division Four, and it showed as both sides played with plenty intent.
Malvern threatened in the initial stages with Harry Mansell being forced to smother a shot in the Lakeside defence.
Miguel Passaro, Malvern’s leading goalscorer, was proving a handful and he almost capitalised on a misunderstanding in the Lakeside defence, putting his lob just wide.
Lakeside also had their moments and had an effort cleared off their line on the stroke of half-time.
A free-kick by Malvern’s Nick Jones was well saved by Rob Jones in the Lakeside goal in the second half before the deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute.
A corner wasn’t cleared properly and Scott Edgington was on hand to head into the Malvern net.
Seven minutes from time Lakeside doubled their advantage when Cleo Hoare smashed home a free-kick.
