FC Lakeside Reserves take on Westbury United Reserves in the Gloucestershire FA Junior Cup (North) final at Bishop’s Cleeve tonight FC Lakeside Reserves take on Westbury United Reserves in the Gloucestershire FA Junior Cup (North) final at Bishop’s Cleeve tonight

FC Lakeside Reserves head into tonight’s Gloucestershire FA Junior Cup (North) final hoping their name may already be on the trophy after their heroics in the previous round.

The Cheltenham League Premier Division high-fliers came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Longlevens Development, with goals from Kofi Corbett, Ethan Sexton and substitute Mikey Land, and then won a dramatic penalty shootout 3-2 to book their place in the final.

Opposing them at Bishop’s Cleeve tonight are Westbury United Reserves, who play in Division One of the Trowbridge and District League. They, too, were involved in a high-scoring semi-final as they overcame Minchinhampton 4-3.

Lakeside are enjoying a wonderful season and remain unbeaten in the league having won 12 and drawn one of their 13 games.

They still have seven games to play and it seems very likely the title will be decided when they host leaders Whaddon United on Tuesday 2nd May.

Whaddon have won 15 and drawn one of their 16 league games, with the two teams drawing 1-1 with each other at Whaddon back in November.

The focus tonight, though, is very much on the County Cup final with Lakeside manager Joe Woolley saying: “We are very much looking forward to it.

“We have had a good run in the competition with the highlight being the way we came back in the semi-final.

“We hope to add some silverware to the cabinet in what has been a decent season so far.”

Lakeside are flying the flag for the Cheltenham League as far as the County Cup competitions are concerned this season, but they certainly won’t have it all their own way against Westbury’s reserves.

The club are in the top four of their league – albeit there are only nine teams in the division – and a spokesman for the club said: “This is a massive game for us, it’s great for the team.

“Our first team have had a really good first season in the Southern League and it’s great that the reserves are doing well too.”
