FC Lakeside in upbeat mood as they head to Barnwood United for Gloucestershire FA Senior Amateur North Cup tie

FC Lakeside, who have climbed into the top three in Division Two of the Northern Senior League, take a break from league action tomorrow.
The Cheltenham club make the short trip west down the A40 for a Gloucestershire FA Senior Amateur North Cup second round tie against Barnwood United, who play in the same division as them.
And while FC Lakeside joint boss Dave Simmons says the league is the priority this season – the club would love a place in Division One of the Northern Senior League ahead of a what is shaping to be a landmark year for FC Lakeside as a whole in 2020/21 – he is not going over to Gloucester just to make up the numbers.
“Yes, the league is the priority,” he said, “but we’ll be putting out as strong a side as we possibly can. We’ve got a few injuries and a couple of players have got work commitments, but we’ve got a good squad with good depth.
“Whatever team we put out, I’m confident.”
While FC Lakeside have won six of their opening nine league games this season, Barnwood have made a less certain start.
They’ve won two and drawn one of their first eight games to leave them 13th in the 16-strong division.
The teams haven’t met this season but FC Lakeside have fond memories of their last trip to Barnwood.
“It was on the last day of last season and we won 3-1,” said Simmons. “Although the league is our main priority, if we can string a couple of cup wins together that would be great. It’s never a bad thing to progress in a cup.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
