Two goals in the final five minutes earned Dursley Town a thrilling win over Tewkesbury Town on Saturday.

An Adam Price penalty and an own goal gave them a 3-2 victory over the Northern Senior League Division One leaders who had won their first 11 games.

They remain on top on goal difference from Whaddon United, but Dursley are now just two points off the pace.

“I think over the 90 minutes we deserved it,” said Dursley manager Karl Nash of his team's win. “It was very good, a really good one to win, it keeps the pressure on.”

Tewkesbury had led 1-0 at the break and after Aaron Nash had levelled a second goal by Jamie Goodwin had put the visitors back in front before Dursley’s stirring fightback.

Tewkesbury ended the game with nine men after two of their players were sin-binned and 35-year-old Nash said the win was among his best as a manager.

“It’s up there,” he said. “I’ve won a couple of cup finals with Dursley, they’re always special.

“But in the context of the season, how the game played out and the fact they were unbeaten, this was definitely one of the best.

“It would have been even more enjoyable if I was playing!”

Nash had a hip operation a couple of weeks ago and he added: “Touch wood, I shall be back in January.”

More immediately, Dursley face a trip to FC Lakeside on Saturday, a side who have won their last four league games.

That run, which began in mid-October, has lifted them up to eighth in the 16-strong division during which time they have also advanced to the third round of the GFA Senior Cup.

“Lakeside away is never easy,” admitted Nash. “They’re on a little bit of a high at the moment, but it’s a game we’ve got to win. There’s no point beating Tewkesbury and then not winning at Lakeside.”

Tewkesbury host 10th-placed Charfield on Saturday while Whaddon United travel to Tredworth Tigers, who are seventh.
