All systems go as table-topping Shurdington Rovers host second-placed Tewkesbury Athletic in Cheltenham Football League

The Cheltenham Football League swings back into action on Saturday after a break of almost a month and there are certainly some eye-catching fixtures to get the ball rolling again.
For starters, top play second in the Premier Division with leaders Shurdington Rovers hosting second-placed Tewkesbury Athletic.
Both teams have 21 points, although Shurdington have played eight games to Tewkesbury’s nine.
Tewkesbury were the early-season pace-setters but they were well beaten 4-0 at home to third-placed Bishop’s Cleeve A at the start of December, their most recent game.
Cleeve, who are due to travel to Division Three’s basement side Fintan reserves in the Senior Charities Cup on Saturday, also inflicted the only league defeat on Shurdington this season and their assistant manager John Hunt, who is also the league’s fixture secretary, believes his club will finish above both of them come the end of the season.
“I think the top two will be Whaddon United and FC Lakeside reserves,” Hunt said. “They’re both unbeaten in the league this season.”
FC Lakeside reserves host Division One side Generation Next in the Senior Charities Cup on Saturday – “The Senior Charities Cup is our league's FA Cup,” said Hunt – while Whaddon United are without a fixture.
The Christmas and new year break which followed the heavy snow in the middle of last month means that teams will be playing their first game in four weeks on Saturday and Hunt is delighted that the football is back.
“We’ve got plenty of games this weekend and then we’ve got Junior and Minor Charities Cup quarter-finals the following Saturday,” he said. “We’re still on course to get all the matches played by the end of April.”
Meanwhile, 303 Squadron have withdrawn from the league.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
