Kings, FC Lakeside Reserves and Malvern Vale march into last eight of Cheltenham League’s flagship knockout cup
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 17th February 2020, 09:30
The in-form Matt Hill was among the goals again as Kings marched into the last eight of the Cheltenham League’s Senior Charities Cup on Saturday.
The Division One side won 3-1 at Division Two St Paul’s United on a day when Storm Dennis meant there were just seven matches played.
Scott Russ and Simon Dempster were also on target for Kings while Cole Hallam
scored for St Paul’s on the all-weather pitch at All Saints.
But Division One club Southside Star are out after going down 5-2 to the increasingly impressive FC Lakeside Reserves on the artificial pitch at Winchcombe.
In the only other cup match played, Malvern Vale made home advantage count as they overcame Prestbury Rovers 3-1 with Archie Gibbs, Nick Jones and Leon Milan getting their goals.
The five ties that were not able to be played at the weekend are now scheduled to take place this Saturday.
Southside Star Reserves climbed two places to eighth in the 11-strong Division Three with a 5-2 win at Tewkesbury Town Reserves, who are now second from bottom, in the only league game played in the top three divisions.
There were three games in Division Four, one of which saw AFC Cheltenham win 6-2 at Gala Wilton 3rds to move within two points of leaders Tewkesbury Athletic with four games in hand.
AFC Cheltenham had dropped their first points of the season the previous week when they drew 2-2 with Fintan Reserves and Fintan Reserves were at it again on Saturday as they drew 3-3 with another of the division’s high-fliers Winchcombe Town Reserves.
In the one remaining game, Apperley eased into mid-table with a 2-1 win at Bishop’s Cleeve Development.
