Tewkesbury Town have stretched their lead to five points at the top of Division One of the Cheltenham League after a thumping 4-1 win over Bredon Reserves on Saturday.

Nearest rivals Whaddon United were held to a 1-1 draw by Shurdington Rovers – no mean feat when you consider Kevin Slack, Kyle Gibbs and Mike Winter have scored 40 goals between them so far this season.

Whaddon have two games in hand and host Tewkesbury on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Prestbury Rovers climbed into fifth with a 2-1 win over Newton while AFC Renegades overcame Kings by the same score.

Bishop’s Cleeve A, meanwhile, were involved in a GFA County Junior Cup match and they’ll have at least one more game in the competition this season as they beat Tibberton United 2-0.

The weather put paid to all the scheduled Division Two fixtures but FC Lakeside Reserves were in action in Division Three and they made it five wins out of five with a 4-3 win over Tewkesbury Town Reserves.

The win leaves them in fourth place, 10 points behind leaders Smiths Barometrics Athletic III and seven points adrift of second-placed Cheltenham United, but they have played six games fewer than the pacesetters and they have a remarkable eight games in hand on Cheltenham United.

Cheltenham United started the weekend in third place but jumped a spot after winning 2-1 at the previous second-placed side Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves.

Meanwhile, Southside Star Reserves claimed their second league win of the campaign with an impressive 5-1 success at 303 Squadron.

The top game in Division Four saw AFC Cheltenham make it six wins out of six and inflict a third successive defeat on faltering leaders Tewkesbury Athletic as they won 3-1.

Fourth-placed Kempsey Corinthians also have a perfect winning record – five out of five – after defeating Winchcombe Town Reserves, who began the day in second place, 1-0.

Bishop’s Cleeve Development produced one of the performances of the day to defeat high-flying Woodmancote United 6-2.

Remarkably it was only their fourth game of the league campaign and it was also their first win, a result that lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Charlton Rovers III are now propping up the rest of the league after falling 2-1 to fellow strugglers AFC Renegades Reserves.
