Kings produce six-of-the best to end Shurdington Rovers’ unbeaten run in Cheltenham League

It was a day of upsets in Division One of the Cheltenham League with leaders Tewkesbury Town losing 3-2 at home to Malvern Vale and previously unbeaten Shurdington Rovers crashing to a 6-1 defeat at Kings.
Kings boss Andy Davis had called on his team to show character and determination after their defeat by Whaddon United the previous week and they didn’t let him down, going ahead when Lewis Morgan’s cross-shot curled into the top corner of the net.
Tony Bee made it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half, netting from close range after good work on the right by the pacey and tricky Matt Hill.
Simon Dempster added a third two minutes later and then Bee scored his second before Shurdington rallied and Bennett in the home goal was forced into making three fine saves.
The visitors were eventually rewarded with a goal but that was as good as it got for them because the home side came back with two more of their own through a Dempster free-kick and Mike Morran, who latched onto a pass from Hill before slotting home.
Tewkesbury’s defeat means they are now level on points with Malvern Vale, although they have a better goal difference and have played two games fewer.
However, they will be looking over their shoulders at Whaddon United who won 2-0 against Dowty Dynamos to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
The win has taken Whaddon to within three points of previously unbeaten Tewkesbury and they have played two games fewer.
Elsewhere, AFC Renegades climbed into mid-table with a 3-2 win at Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves while Hanley Swan moved into the top four with a 3-2 win over Bishop’s Cleeve A.
Gala Wilton Reserves dropped their first points of the season in Division Two as they went down 5-2 at Prestbury Rovers Reserves.
The win moves second-placed Prestbury to within a point of leaders Smiths Barometrics Athletic Reserves, who were without a game.
Windyridge Rovers eased into the top four after a 3-2 win at Welland Reserves and Brockworth Albion Reserves are a point and a place below them after a 3-1 win over Andoversford Reserves.
An unbeaten record went in Division Three as Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves lost 3-1 at second-placed Smiths Barometrics Athletic 3rds but FC Lakeside Reserves made it four out of four with a thumping 11-2 success over Tewkesbury Town Reserves.
Leaders Cheltenham United returned to winning ways with a 6-3 win over Falcons Reserves and in the only other game in the division, Malvern Vale Reserves shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Southside Star Reserves.
Tewkesbury Athletic are still the team to catch in Division Four as they made it six wins out of six with a 5-0 victory over Charlton Rovers 3rds.
Winchcombe Town Reserves slipped to their first defeat in the league, going down 2-1 at Gala Wilton A while Pittville United Reserves gained their first three points of the campaign as they won 4-3 at Apperley.
