Falcons stun high-flying Cheltenham United PLUS all the Cheltenham League results
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 16th December 2019, 11:40
Falcons Reserves clinched only their second Cheltenham League win of the season on Saturday and in so doing overcame Division Three leaders Cheltenham United.
Falcons won a high-scoring game 5-3 to climb to eighth in the 11-strong division but Cheltenham United remain on top because their nearest rivals Smiths Barometrics Athletic III also suffered a surprise reverse, going down 3-2 at home to 303 Squadron.
In the only other game in the division Tewkesbury Town Reserves lost 3-1 at home to Charlton Rovers Reserves.
It wasn’t a good day for the top team in Division One either because Malvern Vale were defeated 2-1 at Kings.
That allowed Tewkesbury Town, who have set the pace for much of the season, to pull level with them courtesy of a 3-2 win at Prestbury Rovers although Malvern still lead the way on goal difference.
There were plenty of goals at AFC Renegades where Bishop’s Cleeve A emerged 5-4 winners and Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves also scored five on their travels, conceding two, as they defeated Shurdington Rovers.
In the remaining game in the division, Newton are still looking for their first win after going down 3-1 at home to Dowty Dynamos.
Smiths Barometrics Athletic Reserves have maintained their four-point advantage at the top of Division Two after a 5-1 win over Gala Wilton Reserves but Prestbury Rovers Reserves, with a game in hand, are still hot on their heels after succeeding 3-1 at Pittville United.
Fintan, meanwhile, hit Windyridge Rovers for six, winning 6-2, while Welland Reserves won 3-2 at Andoversford Reserves.
High-flying Tewkesbury Athletic boast the best record in the league and they made it eight wins out of eight in Division Four with a 7-0 success against Pittville United Reserves.
Gala Wilton A also hit six as they defeated AFC Renegades Reserves 6-3 and there were also wins for Fintan Reserves and Woodmancote United over Charlton Rovers 3rds and Winchcombe Town Reserves respectively.
