High-flying Sharpness hit rivals for six in County League
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 11th November 2019, 13:00
Sharpness hit bottom-of the-table Patchway Town for six to climb into second spot in the County League.
The home side went ahead after three minutes when James Higgs pumped a long ball forward to Will Lacey who ran clear before driving home.
They added a second in the 22nd minute when Tom Freeman picked up a loose ball and found Sam Strickland who hammered the ball into the back of the net.
Three minutes into the second half Sharpness stretched their lead when Ryan Ponting headed in from a corner. Sam Strickland added his second in the 55th minute and 15 minutes later Will Lacey got his second when he ran from midfield and dinked the ball over the on-rushing keeper.
Dan Hobbs saved well from Patchway’s Kyle Ford with 15 minutes to go before Sharpness wrapped up the scoring when Brad Hewer broke from the halfway line before firing home.
Frampton United moved back into the top four after an impressive 5-2 win at Quedgeley Wanderers.
Nathan Payne tested the visiting keeper early on but a minute later United were in front through Fraser Wilson. They went further ahead in the 16th minute from a Manolo Espada strike and they went close to stretching their lead soon after when Nathan Charnock brought off a good save.
Nathan Payne went close again for the home side but five minutes before the break it was 3-0 with Fin Blythe getting on the scoresheet.
A fine penalty save by Charnock raised Quedgeley’s spirits and they pulled a goal back on the hour through Jordan Rouse but within five minutes Frampton’s Ethan Dunbar restored the visitors’ three-goal advantage. Craig Mills added a fifth before Jordan Rouse grabbed a late consolation goal for the home side.
Improving Hardwicke are continuing to climb the table after an excellent 4-1 win over Ruardean Hill Rangers, their third victory of the campaign.
On a slippery pitch they went ahead after 15 minutes with Will Higgins getting on the end of Jordan Dowdeswell’s cross. Goalkeeper Underwood then denied Higgins a second before James Ratcliffe used his pace down the wing before cutting in and unleashing a shot that Underwood tipped over the bar.
However, Ruardean were also threatening and they got a deserved equaliser when Bobby Walding’s cross was headed in by Shaun Tingle.
Ratcliffe’s pace was giving the visitors a few problems and he was again denied by Underwood and Ruardean were reduced to 10 men right on half time when Dan Matthews was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Two minutes into the second half the home side regained the lead with Ratcliffe crossing for Will Higgins to score from 10 yards.
Toby Webb made it 3-1 when he broke down the flank, cut in and drove a fierce shot past Underwood.
Ratcliffe hit a post and Richard Mansell’s 35-shot was well saved by Underwood but with just a couple of minutes left Will Higgins sent in a cross for Will Matthews to complete the scoring.
