Why Charfield Football Club are in such buoyant mood ahead of this week’s games
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 2nd November 2018, 09:00
Charfield’s first team reached the County Junior Cup final last season and are top of Stroud League Division OneThere can’t too many football clubs up and down the country who are going into this weekend’s games with a record anywhere near that of Charfield Football Club.
That’s because so far this season the club have an unblemished record having won all 19 of their matches.
The club run a first team and a reserve team and both have an identical record in their respective divisions of played eight, won eight.
Not surprisingly they both top their divisions in the Stroud League with the flagship team leading the way in Division One and the reserves setting the pace in Division Four.
The club have also won all three of their cup matches this season so it comes as no surprise when club secretary Jeremy Lewis says: “It’s a fantastic, it’s a great place to be at the moment, long may it continue.
“We seem to be finding that extra five per cent because we’ve got this record to maintain,” before adding, “but we’ve won nothing yet.”
The first team host Rodborough Old Boys in the County Cup on Saturday – it’s a competition Charfield have finished runners-up in for the past two seasons – while the reserves travel to McCadam for a league game.Other Images
