Two-goal Luke Brown is the start turn for Ruardean Hill Rangers
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 22nd October 2018, 10:10
Ruardean Hill Rangers ended Rockleaze Rangers’ four-match winning streak with a fine 2-0 win in the County League.
The Forest team attacked right from the off and home keeper Lewis Brodie pulled off a good save to deny Kane Fellows. But he was powerless to prevent the visitors taking the lead on 11 minutes through a great strike from Luke Brown.
Ten minutes later Ruardean were two ahead. A long ball up the right side found Luke Brown who took it in his stride and raced on to slot the ball past Brodie.
Rockleaze rallied and a low shot from the edge of the box from Joe Weare saw keeper Aaron Underwood dive low to save but the visitors almost got a third just before the break when Luke Brown fired just past the post.
The home side started well in the second half and Underwood was twice called into action but Ruardean hit back and home keeper Brodie was needed to parry a Kane Fellows shot over the bar.
Rockleaze had a couple of chances late on but Ruardean held on to take the points.
Gala Wilton pushed league leaders Lebeq United all the way before falling to a 1-0 defeat.
Gala defended deep for long periods and it frustrated the visitors who got the only goal of the game in the 30th minute through Sheldon Sawyer.
Gala’s first attempt on goal came in the 56th minute when Danny Knight shot just the wrong side of the post.
They went even closer in the 75th minute when a shot from Tom Dunsford crashed against the crossbar although Lebeq turned the rebound into attack and almost got a second goal but for a fantastic save by keeper Dan Brabham.
Gala almost got a point in the 88th minute following a corner that was punched clear by keeper Amin Jones. The ball was pumped back into the box but Peter Boyles’ header went just wide.
Broadwell Amateurs bounced back from their 4-0 GFA Challenge Trophy Cup defeat to Patchway Town by beating the same opponents 1-0.
Broadwell’s Jamie Merry denied the home side early on with a fine save before Kristian Burnard went close with a header for the visitors. And soon after Broadwell got the only goal of the game when a cross into the box by Ben Fishwick found Harry Williams and his shot went in even though keeper Sam Burgess got a hand to the ball.
Stonehouse Town were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Henbury who were ahead on 13 minutes when Harvey Moran picked up a poor back pass. His first shot was saved by keeper Will Pedrick but he slotted home the rebound.
It was a lead Henbury held into the break although Stonehouse started the second half well and Dan Martin saw an effort well saved.
The home side were level on 51 minutes when Alex Kibble lifted the ball over the Henbury defence for Dan Martin to run clear and lob the ball over the advancing keeper.
Will Pedrick then brought off a fantastic save to deny Henbury from taking the lead through a Nathan Hewitt shot before Tom Palmer scrambled the ball away for a corner.
Hardwicke had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Wick after leading 2-0 at the break.
They were ahead on 15 minutes when Kieran Bryce-Ingles scored and stretched their advantage two minutes before the break when keeper Joe Pople fouled Will Matthews in the box and Will Higgins made no mistake from the spot.
Wick pulled a goal back in the 70th minute through Jordan Scott but had to wait until two minutes into added time for their equaliser which was scored by Harry Madge.
