Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy helps Stuart Langworthy make it three wins out of three

Alan Kennedy, the one-time marauding Liverpool left-back who won pretty much every trophy there was to win with the Reds back in the 70s and 80s, is still enjoying that winning feeling.
That’s because the now 64-year-old was part of England Over-60s walking football team that have just enjoyed a win double against their Welsh counterparts in Barry.
As regular readers of The Local Answer will know, the England Over-60s are managed by Stuart Langworthy, the man who has done so much for Abbeymead Rovers Football Club over the years.
“It was a very successful weekend,” said Langworthy of the trip over the Severn Bridge. “The 1sts won 2-1 and the B team won 4-0. I gave Alan a good runout some 40 years after he last played for England.”
Kennedy, who played twice for England in the mid-1980s at a time when Kenny Sansom was considered first-choice left-back, is not the only ‘name’ to have turned out for Langworthy recently because Tommy Charlton – the brother of England World Cup winners Bobby and Jack – played against Italy in May.
That was a match that England also won and Langworthy added: “I’m very pleased with the results, very proud. That’s three wins out of three.”
And there are more fixtures in the pipeline including a potential game against Gibraltar as well as return matches against Italy and Wales.
The matches are all part of the build-up to next year’s European Championships, which will take place in Chesterfield on 1st and 2nd June.
It is also thought that a World Cup, planned for 2020, will take place at Chesterfield as well.
And it’s not just England’s Over-60s who are going well because the over-50s, managed by Paul Murtagh, also enjoyed a win double over the Welsh at Barry, winning 5-0 and 3-0.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
