Frampton United make it three wins out of three in County League with Matt Cook goal
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 20th August 2018, 14:20
Frampton United are setting a hot pace at the top of the new County League season as they made it three wins out of three with a 1-0 home win over Southmead CS Athletic.
They have yet to concede a goal and have netted seven. They started well against Southmead as Matt Cook was unlucky when his free-kick from just outside the box struck the upright in the 15th minute.
The decisive goal came 21 minutes later when Cook chipped the visitors’ defence and Ryan Vincent ran clear to slot the ball home.
Jonathan Lewis could have netted a second for the home side in time added but his shot was well saved.
Stonehouse Town proved too strong for Hanham Athletic, winning 3-0 at the bottom-of-the-table club.
Jamie Spring headed the visitors into a 1-0 lead from a corner on 28 minutes but Sam Welling and Ellis Kow both had great chances to level before Tim Williams was put clear to in the 73rd minute to make it 2-0. Five minutes from time Dave Regula netted a third for the visitors.
Gala Wilton are still looking for their first win of the new league campaign after going down 3-0 at home to Little Stoke.
They could have gone ahead if someone had got on the end of a low corner from Craig Powell in the 17th minute but after that it was the visitors who took charge with a three-goal salvo.
Hardwicke are also looking for that first victory after going down 3-1 at home to Lebeq United.
The home side, who had drawn their first two games, were behind after four minutes but went close to an equaliser when Glen Gittins saw his well struck shot parried by the keeper.
Gittins then went close with a header before the visitors stretched their lead six minutes after the break.
Hardwicke pulled a goal back in the 75th minute when Will Matthews powered his header past Jones from a James Ractliffe cross but the visitors wrapped up the points with a third goal.
Ruardean Hill Rangers enjoyed their first win of the season at the second time of asking in some style, winning 4-0 at AEK Boco. Luke Johnson was their star man as he grabbed a hat-trick.
Rangers opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Luke Brown picked up a poor clearance and threaded the ball through for Johnson to run clear and round the keeper before tapping the ball home.
Five minutes before the break Rangers got a second when Johnson was put clear again before cleverly chipping the keeper.
It was more of the same in the second half as a mazy run by Luke Brown, which saw him drift past several defenders, ended with him slipping the ball to Kane Fellows to lift the ball over the keeper to make it 3-0.
Five minutes from time they got their fourth. This time Fellows stole the ball on the edge of the box and as he broke into the box was pulled back and the referee awarded a penalty. There was only one person going to take that kick and Luke Johnson stepped up to complete his treble.
Broadwell Amateurs went ahead at Henbury after eight minutes but were eventually beaten 4-2.
Ben Schiller fired home a free-kick from the left side of the box to give the visitors the lead but by half-time Henbury were 2-1 ahead.
Broadwell levelled on 52 minutes following a break down the right which ended with Jordi Sheen getting the finishing touch.
But two more goals for the home side meant that Broadwell left empty-handed.
