Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers both drawn away in Carabao Cup
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 17th August 2018, 14:40
Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers must both head east following the second round draw of the Carabao Cup.
Cheltenham’s reward for their dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout win over Colchester – the game finished 2-2 in normal time - is a trip to West London to take on Championship side Brentford.
Forest Green will also be heading towards the capital although their journey won’t take them quite as far as they have been drawn to play at Wycombe Wanderers.
Brentford are sure to provide a stern test for Gary Johnson’s League Two team. They have made a bright start to the season, thumping Rotherham 5-1 on the opening day of the new league campaign before following up with a 1-1 draw at Stoke.
Goals clearly haven’t been a problem for Dean Smith’s side so far this season because they also won 4-2 at Southend on Tuesday to book their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Forest Green, meanwhile, are at this stage of the competition for the first time in their history after their impressive 1-0 win at fellow League Two side Swindon in midweek.
Their second-round opponents, Wycombe, have drawn one and lost one in League One after last season’s promotion and they booked their date with Mark Cooper’s men after a 7-6 penalty shootout win over visitors Northampton after the game ended 1-1.
All second round ties will be played week beginning Monday 27th August.
