Cheltenham Youth Football League gears up for two Super Sundays of cup finals at Cheltenham Town
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 24th April 2018, 14:50
It’s that time of year when a small number of very fortunate youngsters in the Cheltenham Youth Football League get what may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at Cheltenham Town Football Club.
That’s because we’re just a few days away from the first of two Super Sundays – when teams from under-9 through to under-18 battle it out in the league’s end-of-season age group cup finals.
It’s the time of the season when the youngsters dream of scoring goals on the ground just like Cheltenham Town hot-shot Mo Eisa and – dare it be said – the coaches dream of making tactical changes of which Robins boss Gary Johnson would be proud!
The action kicks off this Sunday at 10am with the first of five finals, and there will be another five finals the following week on Sunday 6th May.
Cheltenham Youth League secretary Denise Pates said: “They are always special days for the players. They get to play in a proper stadium which is something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”
Bishop’s Cleeve Colts and Leckhampton Rovers both have three teams in the various finals, and the two clubs go head-to-head in the opening final – the under-9 final – this Sunday.Cup final dates
