Whaddon United Reserves may be bottom of Division One, but they showed they’ve still got plenty about them.

Their supporters must have feared the worst ahead of their home game against table-topping Cheltenham Civil Service, who have dominated the Cheltenham League, sponsored by Bristol Street Motors, this season.

And though Service did indeed leave with the points, they won only by the odd goal in three. Having said that, it was enough to increase their advantage at the top to a massive 14 points, while Whaddon remain anchored to the bottom with just one point from 12 games.

The only other game in the top flight saw out-of-sorts Dowty Dynamos crash 5-0 at Tewkesbury Town, who have climbed above Dowty into the top three.

And while Service are tearing it up in Division One, their reserves are doing a pretty good job in Division Two. The second-placed side moved to within seven points of leaders The Beeches – Beeches’ game was postponed – with a 5-2 win at home to FC Barometerics Reserves. And they have also played three games fewer than The Beeches.

Bottom-of-the-table Pittville United pushed third-placed Hanley Swan quite hard before going down 4-2, but it wasn’t so close at Gala Wilton Reserves where Andoversford Reserves were walloped 6-0.

In the only other game played in the division, Prestbury Rovers remain in trouble after going down 2-1 at Fintan.

Into Division Three, and AFC Renegades kept up the pressure on leaders St Paul’s United, whose game was postponed, with a 6-0 win over Dowty Dynamos Reserves.

The win leaves them four points behind St Paul’s with a game in hand.

At the other end of the table, Kings FC Reserves continued their improved recent form with a 5-2 success over bottom-of-the-table FC Lakeside Reserves, while honours ended even at Brockworth Albion Reserves where the hosts shared four goals with Falcons Reserves.

Just three points separate the top four and five points the top six in Division Four, and while that looks close, it’s not as close as it appears because leaders Prestbury Rovers Reserves have won 10 out of 10 and have plenty of games in hand on all the teams behind them.

Their concern, however, is that they may face a fixture backlog and they were without a game at the weekend.

One of the chasing pack, Woodmancote United, have slipped up in the past couple of weeks, and their poor run continued when they slumped to a 5-1 defeat at home to Fintan Reserves

Malvern Vale FC and Malvern Vale FC Academy are now second and third after 4-1 wins over Smiths Athletic Reserves and Welland Reserves respectively.

Sixth-placed Gala Wilton 3rds kept in touch with the leaders – albeit having played five games more – with a 3-2 win at lowly Cheltenham Saracens Reserves, but bottom-of-the-table Charlton Rovers suffered their 11th straight defeat, as they went down 5-2 at home to Bishop’s Cleeve Development Reserves.

In the remaining game, Andoversford 3rds drew 2-2 at home to Winchcombe Town Reserves.
