Bishop’s Cleeve to take on Forest Green and Cheltenham Town next week

Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 6th July 2017, 16:50
Kayte Lane will be a popular destination, not once, not twice but three times over the next 10 days or so.
That’s because the village football team, who play in Southern League Division One South and West, are playing host to three high-profile pre-season fixtures.
The first is against Football League new boys Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday 11th July (7.30pm) and the second is three days later against Cheltenham Town (7.30pm).
The third is on Tuesday 18th July when Hereford, who are always well supported, are the visitors (7.45pm).
Further friendlies are planned against Henbury OBs, Westfield, Wantage and Stonehouse, and the club are still looking for a fixture on Saturday 5th August before the Southern League kicks off the following week.
“Those first three games are really good news for the club and are testament to how far we’ve come,” said Cleal. “It will be good for the players to test themselves against better opposition.
“The first three games are all about fitness and trying to compete and then we play games against teams below us in the pyramid where we can try to impose our game on the opposition.”
Cleal is hoping for a crowd of around 250 to 300 for the Forest Green game and even more for the Friday game against Cheltenham.
Hereford, too, have a decent fanbase. “They’ve already sold 1,000 season-tickets,” added Cleal.
