Forest Green Rovers begin Football League campaign with home game against Barnet on Saturday 5th August
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 21st June 2017, 10:10
Forest Green Rovers kick off their first ever season in the Football League with a home game against Barnet on Saturday 5th August.
The League Two fixtures for the 2017/18 season were unveiled today and Rovers fans are in for a treat as they look forward to games against Gloucestershire rivals Cheltenham Town as well as Coventry City and Swindon Town – two clubs who not so long ago were rubbing shoulders with teams at the top end of the English game.
The keenly anticipated first game against Cheltenham will take place at The New Lawn on Saturday 25th November, with the return fixture on Saturday 14th April.
Swindon visit The New Lawn on Saturday 23rd September while Rovers make the short trip to Wiltshire on Saturday 13th January.
Rovers have been sent to Coventry for a midweek date – the two teams meeting on Tuesday 17th October – and The New Lawn is sure to be rocking on Saturday 3rd February when the 1987 FA Cup winners make the return journey to Gloucestershire.
The club’s fans will need to ensure there is plenty of fuel in their cars over the Christmas period because they must travel to Exeter City on Boxing Day and then Lincoln City four days later on Saturday 30th December.
They can turn their sat-navs off at the start of 2018, however, because Rovers host Wycombe Wanderers on January 1st.
