South African star Keegan Petersen joins Stroud Cricket Club

Stroud Cricket Club have signed 25-year-old South African star Keegan Petersen for the 2019 season.

Petersen plays first class cricket in South Africa for VKB Knights and was rated as the league’s fourth Most Valuable Player in the SACA rankings.

He finished the series as the tournament’s top runscorer including three tons, four half-centuries and a highest score of 165 not out. Overall Petersen has played in excess of 80 first class matches with an average of over 40.

In addition to playing in Gloucestershire/Wiltshire Premier Two of the West of England Premier League – subject to visa – Keegan will lead the coaching set-up for all levels of cricket in the club, including the youth section.

Club and 1st XI captain Tom Horrell said: “It’s a real feather in our cap to get someone of Keegan’s quality into the side.

“It demonstrates Stroud’s ambition to compete at the highest levels.”

Chairman James Collins added: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming KP to Stroud and are hugely excited about the impact he’ll have across the club.”
