Poulton host Apperley on Saturday

Poulton host high-flying Apperley on Saturday looking to put a dent in their promotion ambitions.

The County League Division One pacesetters have lost just one of their opening seven games and have opened up a 14-point gap at the top of the table.

They are six places and 41 points ahead of Poulton in the 10 strong division – Pouton have won three and lost three – but while the Cotswolds team face a tough test, they will be encouraged by what happened last season.

“We beat them twice,” said vice-captain Charlie Buse. “One was a really good result because we’d been on tour that week to Kent – we went on the Wednesday and didn’t get back until the Saturday morning so there were a couple of sore heads!”

Poulton just missed out on promotion to the West of England Premier League for the first time in their history last season – they finished third – while Apperley finished eighth, but Apperley are certainly the form team in the division this time around.

“They haven’t scored fewer than 200 this season,” admitted Buse.
