Holders Hatherley Hurricanes will take on Dumbleton Dynamite in an eagerly-anticipated final of the Cheltenham Premier T20 next week.

Hatherley booked their place in Tuesday's showpiece with a seven-wicket win over Cheltenham Spartans in a second qualifier last night.

It’s a repeat of last season’s final, which Hatherley won by 24 runs, and competition organiser Sathya Prakash Timmaraju said: “The final is between the best two teams, they deserve to be there.”

The final will take place at the Victoria Ground, home of Cheltenham Cricket Club, and Prakash is encouraging as many people as possible to attend what should be a great evening’s entertainment.

The two teams have dominated this season's competition with Hatherley going through the seven-strong group stage unbeaten, winning five and tying one, including a three-wicket win over Dumbleton last month.

Dumbleton finished second in the group stage but had the satisfaction of beating Hatherley by four runs in a thrilling first qualifier at North Park last week.

That victory earned them their place in the final and it was also the first time that they’d beaten Hatherley in four attempts in the competition.

Prakash is hoping some 500 people will attend Tuesday’s final – it starts at 6pm – and there should be plenty of fireworks with Dumbleton’s Tom Kelly and Hatherley’s Joel Price the leading batsman and bowler in the competition respectively.

South Australian opening batsman Kelly has so far smashed 564 runs at an average of more than an 80 with a strike rate of a barely believable 213.64, including three centuries in his first three games.

Slow bowler Price, meanwhile, has taken 16 wickets, including the wicket of Kelly when the two sides met in June.

“Tom has been unbelievable,” said Prakash. “I saw him bat at Hatherley last week, one of his sixes went into the road.”

Price, who is Hatherley’s captain, has bowled the first over in both his side’s games with Dumbleton this season and Prakash continued: “He bowled well against Cheltenham Spartans last night and he’s been doing really well all season.”

There will be live music before the start of Tuesday’s game and Prakash is hoping that spectators will start arriving at the ground at 5pm.

A reserve day of Tuesday 23^rd July has been set aside for the final of a competition which is in its second year, a competition that has captured the imagination of players and supporters alike with its coloured clothing, coloured balls, music and cash prizes.

The competition winners will receive £800 in prize money.
