Gloucestershire Under 15s extended their lead at the top of their ECB Cup group with a comprehensive seven wicket victory over Somerset.

Rockhampton’s George Driver-Dickerson scored a mature half-century to help his side chase down the 148 needed in the 38th over.

Earlier Will Gilderson (Dumbleton) and Stanley Brown (Cheltenham) had taken three wickets apiece to bowl Somerset out for 147 and put Gloucestershire four points of their nearest rivals in Group 4A.

Somerset won the toss and looked to have made the right decision in batting first, as they reached 45 without loss.

But the opening partnership was broken by a run out from Joe Durie (Old Bristolians Westbury) which saw Josh Thomas depart for 12. Brown then picked up the first of his wickets, removing the other opener James Rew (24) to make it 45-2 with two new batsmen at the crease.

Brown (3-13) struck again soon after, clean-bowling George Thomas (3) to leave Somerset wobbling on 58-3.

They arrested some of Gloucestershire’s momentum with a 27-run partnership for the third wicket and looked to be right back in the game when Dhurv Parashar (30) and Callum Harvey (20) added 43 for the fifth wicket.

But the return of fast bowler Gilderson did for both batsmen in quick succession as he set in motion a collapse that saw Somerset go from 128-4 to 147 all out.

Gilderson (3-19) picked up three of the wickets, supported by Brown, Oliver (1-37) and Praneel Choughule (2-35).

In reply, Gloucestershire started confidently as Nick Schubach (Dumbleton) and Choughule added 29 before the latter was run out for 10 by Davis Trego.

Gloucestershire rebuilt but were undone by another run out from the same fielder. This time Schubach was the victim, departing for 29 to make it 64-2. When Brown was dismissed by Parashar the visitors still needed 56 but they avoided a fate like that of their opponents thanks to a calm innings by Driver-Dickerson.

He made a determined 51* from 104 balls as he and captain Sami Hamid (19*) (Winterbourne) saw their side through to a comfortable victory.

Gloucestershire Women suffered a double defeat in the latest round of the ECB T20 Championship as they lost to Cornwall and Oxfordshire.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first against Cornwall, Gloucestershire made a bright start through captain Alice Hill and Millie Ashford as the pair put on 32 for the first wicket.

But 32-0 became 35-2 as Hill and her replacement Emma O’Connor fell in quick succession.

Ashford (26) continued to lead from the front, scoring at nearly a run a ball before becoming Kellie Williams’ (3-9) second victim with the score on 49. Bea Ellis made a spirited 19 to give Gloucestershire a total to defend but with no other player reaching double figures they finished on 84-7.

In reply Cornwall were reduced to 21-2 with a wicket each for Mollie Robbins (1-4) and Helen Cutler (1-9). But this proved to be the end of the wickets as Cornwall cruised to their target with 22 balls to spare.

Against Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire again called correctly at the coin toss and opted to bat first. Once again Hill and Ashford began well and this time they were able to build on their start with a first wicket stand of 71.

But when they both departed in quick succession – for 21 and 33 respectively – Gloucestershire slipped to 78-4. Unfortunately they never fully recovered, eventually finishing on 99-6.

In response, opening bowler Sidra Khan (2-9) struck in her first wicket to make it 3-1 and give Gloucestershire the perfect start. Oxon dug in and added 24 before Helen Cutler (3-24) made the breakthrough by dismissing Ingram for 14.

Gloucestershire continued to chip away at their opponents with regular wickets but despite a tight spell of 2-14 from four overs by Hill they were never quite able to stem the flow of runs from the other end. At 61-6 it seemed to be advantage Gloucestershire but the Oxon lower order refused to give up the fight.

Number seven Emilia Bartram went on the attack with 27* from 20 balls and found enough support from her skipper, Abi Currie (10* from 9 balls) to secure the win in the 19th over.

Spinner Max Shepherd (Bourton Vale) took 4-21 as Gloucestershire Under 17 Development cruised to a seven wicket win over Wiltshire.

The left armer took the last four wickets to fall as the visitors collapsed from 47-1 to 116 all out after having elected to bat first.

Wilts had recovered well after Adam Hares (1-17) (Bedminster) removed opener William Pritchett (1) with the score on 8. But when Alex Wilson (1-22) (Twyford House) got rid of the other opening batsman Edward Wade (29) it sparked a run of five wickets falling for just 15 runs.

Three of those wickets fell with the score on 62 as Alfie Lewis (1-17) (Stapleton), Oliver Wood (1-7) (Cirencester) and Sam Swingwood (2-25) (Monmouth) did the damage. Ben Higton (29) played well to try and keep his side in the game but the introduction of Shepherd ended any hopes of posting a challenging total.

Chasing 117 to win, Gloucestershire lost three wickets but the result was never in danger as Ewen Gegg (Frocester) held the innings together with unbeaten 50 from 59 balls (8 fours), supported by 28 not out from Lewis.

Gloucestershire Under 14 Boys suffered a three-wicket defeat to Oxfordshire after being bowled out for 137.

The home side were punished for failing to bat their 50 overs as the visitors survived a late fightback to reach their target in the 47th over.

Gloucestershire had started well, reaching 38-0 in six overs thanks to a positive partnership between Sam Brooks (22) (Bristol YMCA) and Jack Studley (14). But when both fell in quick succession, it slowed the run rate and put Oxon on top.

Ahmed Syed (29) (Thornbury) and Soban Irfan (13) (Downend) dug in and repaired some of the damage. After a slow start they had just begun to get the scoreboard moving when both fell to Josh Richardson. And with two more wickets also falling in the same period Glos looked as though they may struggle to post a challenging total.

Smart batting by Charlie Brook (19) (Cirencester) and Toby Rice (19) (Lodway) restored some calm, and a score of 160 plus looked to be on the cards before a flurry of late wickets saw Gloucestershire bowled out for a below par 137 in the 42nd over.

In reply Ahmed Tabraiz (1-18 from 10 overs) (Pak Bristolians) and Brook (1-41) both struck early to give their side hope.

And Gloucestershire continued to chip away at their opponents with wickets at regular intervals. Charlie Allan (2-23) (Thornbury) was particularly impressive and there were also wickets for Irfan (1-11) and Syed (1-14).

With seven wickets down and more than 30 runs needed the game was in the balance. But despite some late pressure from Tabraiz and Allan, Oxon held their nerve thanks to a gutsy 36 not out from Charlie Turner.

Gloucestershire Under 17 Women made a losing start to their County Championship campaign after suffering a narrow 14 run defeat to Devon.

Bowling first, Gloucestershire did well to restrict their opponents to 124 from 40 overs. Regular wickets stopped the hosts gaining any real momentum as Maisie Hunkin (2-20) (Frenchay), Zoe Dibble (3-24) (Apperley) and Bea Ellis (3-21) (Charlton Kings) all contributed with the ball.

In reply, the visitors made a good start, reaching 29 before losing their first wicket. Isobel Patel (14) (Frenchay), Dibble and Cerys King (17) (Corse and Staunton) all reached double figures but with no one able to go on and wickets falling regularly Gloucestershire were eventually bowled out for 110.
