Dumbleton Dynamite and Hatherley Hurricanes set up Cheltenham Premier T20 final showdown
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 28th June 2023, 13:00
Dumbleton Dynamite will play Hatherley Hurricanes in the final of the Cheltenham Premier T20 next week.
Dumbleton booked their place in the showpiece occasion at the Victoria Ground on Tuesday with a fine six-wicket win over Cheltenham Spartans last night.
Chasing a total of 134-8, they got home with 11 balls to spare with skipper Myles Holland unbeaten on 61 from 46 balls having shared in a match-winning fourth-wicket partnership of 105 with his older brother Daniel, who made 58 from 47 deliveries. The Holland boys are the grandsons of ex-international umpire Ray Julian.
Earlier, Cheltenham were always on the back foot after losing their first three wickets for 26, even though opener Josh Breed made 75 from 60 balls. Breed hit nine fours and two sixes but only one other batsman – Chris Williams (12) – reached double figures, with Ollie Horne taking 4-25 from his four overs.
Hatherley, meanwhile, romped to victory against Tewkesbury Royals in the other semi-final at North Park, reaching their target of 167-5 with 5.2 overs remaining.
Tom Hage led the run charge, smashing an unbeaten 64 off 30 balls, an innings that included five sixes and fives fours. James Harber wasn’t far behind him – 50 from 33 deliveries – with the two sharing an unbroken partnership of 123.
Max Kelly had earlier been the pick of Hatherley’s bowlers with 3-29 while opener Josh Barnes top-scored for the visitors with 62 off 46 balls.
Hatherley have undoubtedly been the standout side in this season’s competition having gone through the group stages unbeaten. They beat Dumbleton by 51 runs at Dumbleton a couple of weeks ago.
The two other teams who made up the inaugural Varistha Cheltenham Premier T20 were Charlton Super Kings and University of Gloucestershire Giants.
Tuesday’s final gets under way at 6pm with organisers hoping for a crowd of around 200.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
