Champions Quedgeley and Hardwicke Cricket Club enjoy season to remember
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 5th September 2022, 11:00
Quedgeley and Hardwicke Cricket Club completed a very impressive hat-trick on Saturday.
They’d already won the Gloucestershire County League Division Six title and with it promotion to Division Five, but their 109-run victory at Chedworth meant they also went through the league campaign unbeaten.
And the league table certainly makes extremely good reading for captain Connor Millin and his team because they have won 16 and tied one of their 18 games. The other one was cancelled.
“It’s been a really good season,” said opening batsman and left-arm seam bowler Ben Hopkins. “We’ve had a lot of really good contributions from everyone – batting, bowling and fielding.
“Literally everyone has contributed at some stage of the season and it’s a reward for all the hard work that we have put in.
“Remaining unbeaten is something we will all be able to look back on. It’s definitely something special and something we’d spoken about, it’s great to get over the line.”
Since tying with Gloucester 2nds on 23rd July, Quedgeley and Hardwicke have adopted their own form of Bazball, twice topping 300 in their 40 overs in thumping 175-run wins, and like Ben Stokes’ great entertainers they won convincingly when bowling first too.
Division Five of the Gloucestershire County League will be the highest level the club have played and Hopkins said: “It will be good to test ourselves at the higher level. We’ve had a couple of promotions so we are in a good place.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
