Hartpury College’s Danielle Gibson has been named in an England Women cricket squad.
Danielle, 18, who started playing for Dumbleton back in the noughties, has won a place in the 2019-20 England Women’s Academy (EWA).
She has impressed at club level with Western Storm – one of the six elite women’s domestic teams that play in the ECB Kia Super League.
Twenty-four Hartpury graduates or current students were recently named in the latest England Women rugby squads and Tom Radcliffe, Director of Elite Sport at Hartpury, said: “We’re always extremely proud of our graduates and current students when they’re selected for their national squads in whichever particular sport they excel.
“It is a brilliant achievement for Danielle to have been named in the England Women’s Academy and recognises the continuing talent and hard work she has displayed in the sporting arena, alongside working towards her academic qualifications at Hartpury.”
The EWA, in which former Dean Close pupil Danielle was first named in 2016, provides an individualised programme for players and offers support specific to their needs to maximise the chances of future transition to the senior squad.
John Stanworth, Head Coach of the England Women’s Academy, said: “We look forward to working closely with this group across the next 12 months.
“The opportunity to develop their skills alongside other talented players on a regular basis is an important part of their development.
“It is an exciting group of players and we look forward to seeing them progress through the different experiences they will be exposed to, both here and abroad.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
