Gloucestershire Under 17 Women were edged out by Devon in a hard fought regional T20 semi final.
 
Batting first Gloucestershire posted 133-6, thanks in large part to a 105-run opening stand between Chloe Skelton (Corse and Staunton) and Abbie Whybrow (Dumbleton). The pair batted beautifully with Skelton making 44 from 58 balls and Whybrow smashing 42 from 40 with five fours and a six.
 
In reply Gloucestershire made an early breakthrough as Tosca Knight (Lechlade) ran out Daisy Meadowcroft before a run had been scored. But the visitors battled back with a second wicket stand of 64 between Emma Corney and Rebecca Halliday.  
 
Bea Ellis (Charlton Kings) got the breakthrough when she had Halliday stumped by Whybrow for 32. And when fellow spinner Skelton made it 67-3 by clean bowling Olivia Churcher the momentum swung Gloucestershire’s way. 
 
Unfortunately for the home side Devon showed admirable resilience and secured victory with 11 balls to spare. Halliday finished unbeaten on 61 and Maddie Holifield made a run-a-ball 27.
 
The Under 17 girls had qualified for the semi-final match after beating both Wales and Wiltshire in the shortest format of the game. 
 
They remain on course to finish as runners-up in their 50 over Championship group following an impressive win over Somerset.
 
Batting first Gloucestershire made 196-4, as opener Skelton led the way with 68 from 96 balls. She received good support from Isabel Carey (Frenchay) who finished unbeaten on 48 and Ellis also added a brisk 28 late on.
 
In reply, skipper Maisie Hunkin (Frenchay) put her side on the front foot with two LBWs in quick succession to reduce Somerset to 23-2. Hunkin was also involved in the third wicket, this time taking the catch as Helen Cutler (Claverham) ended a stand of 46 when she removed India Rose Owen for 36.  
 
Niamh Holland (35) and Jess Hazell (30 from 31) added 65 for the fourth wicket but the wicket of Hazell – stumped Knight, bowled Skelton – changed the course of the match. Knight ran out new batter Scantlebury for 2 and the key wicket of Holland followed soon after as the returning Hunkin (3-45) picked up her third wicket to make it 137-6.
 
Somerset battled bravely but another Knight run out and a second wicket for Cutler (2-23) put the brakes on and ensured Gloucestershire ran out winners by a margin of 20 runs.

Gloucestershire Under 13s recorded stunning back-to-back victories over Yorkshire and Somerset.
 
A superb team performance saw the side chase down 207 with just three balls remaining to beat Yorkshire at Bishopston.
 
The visitors batted first and posted 206 thanks to a century from their skipper Sabir Mahmood who held the innings together. But Gloucestershire continually chipped away with wickets at the other end as William Merrett (Lechlade) led the way with 3-35.
 
In response Gloucestershire started brilliantly with a 101-run opening stand between Max Richards (Winterbourne) and James Austen (Frocester) who both made 40. But a collapse saw the hosts lose four wickets for just 10 runs as they slipped from 101-0 to 111-4. 

With the game in the balance Cirencester keeper/batsman Ottie Landale strode to the crease and proceeded to turn things back Gloucestershire’s way with a positive, busy innings.

Supported by Gus Carini-Roberts (11) (Aston Ingham), Max Dunne (13) (Frocester) and Luke Hope (6*) (Great Rissington) Landale held the innings together, making 51 not out from 50 balls to take his side to victory in the final over.

The Under 13s followed up their four wicket win over Yorkshire with a 26 run victory over Somerset in a low-scoring game at Bishopston.

Batting first Gloucestershire were bowled out for 107 in 25.2 overs. Morgan Barnes top scored with 25 as only four players reached double figures – including number 10 Lysander Tarrant (Bourton Vale) who made 12 not out.
 
Defending a low total the home side were made to wait for the first wicket as Somerset reached 56 without loss. The introduction of first change bowlers Dunne and Tarrant turned the game on its head as the pair ripped through the Somerset top order. 
 
Spinner Dunne took 4-12 in seven overs and Tarrant picked up 3-23 at the other end as Somerset crumbled from 56-0 to 81 all out. There was also a run out from Merrett and two late wickets for Freddie Sharp (2-5) (Dumbleton) as Gloucestershire secured a comfortable 26 run victory.

Gloucestershire Under 14 Boys secured A Division cricket for next year and put themselves into contention for top spot in their ECB group with four wins in a row.
 
The squad is guaranteed to finish in the top five and will end up level on points with current leaders Berkshire if they can secure victories from their remaining two fixtures.
 
The run of wins started away at Cornwall where Charlie Brook (3-17) (Cirencester), Taylor Ireland (2-36) (Frocester) and Ahmed Syed (2-36) (Thornbury) combined to help dismiss their hosts for just 114.

An unbeaten 63 from Tommy Boorman (Dumbleton) and 43 from Sam Brooks (Bristol YMCA) ensured a nerveless chase was completed in the 21st over as Gloucestershire secured a nine wicket win.
 
On the road again, the boys took on Wiltshire at South Wilts CC. Openers Brooks and Soban Irfan combined to devastating effect, adding 221 for the first wicket. 

Both players reached their first county hundreds in a stand that blew the home attack away. Brooks (113) played with fluency and controlled aggression while Irfan (100), knocked the ball around with intelligence and style.

A late cameo from skipper Ben French (41) (Frocester) helped Gloucestershire cross the 300 barrier for the first time this season as they finished on 312-2.

In reply Wilts put up a good fight and frustrated the Gloucestershire bowlers but they were never really in contention. They ended up 99 runs short on 213-6 with the wickets shared around.

In contrast to the Wiltshire match, the game against Devon proved a low-scoring affair that went right down to the wire. Having won the toss and elected to bowl first at Tewkesbury CC, Gloucestershire reduced the visitors to 20-3 as Brook (2-25) struck twice and new ball partner Ahmed Tabraiz (1-20) (Pak Bristolians) chipped in with one. 
 
Devon applied themselves well but were never able to get away from a disciplined Gloucestershire attack. Jack Studley (1-20) (Winterbourne) removed the dangerous Walker – stumped down the legside by Brooks – to make it 54-4 before debutant Kamil Sahabadeen (Chepstow) took his first wicket to make it 69-5. 
 
The leg spinner showed great control in a spell of 2-28 from 10 overs as Gloucestershire kept their opponents in check.

Anything above 150 looked likely to be a good score and on 112-6 the innings was very much in the balance. But Gloucestershire tipped it their way with three wickets for three runs including two for Toby Rice (2-25) (Lodway). However the game then turned back Devon’s way with a superb last wicket stand of 36 which was only ended by a Brook run out.
 
Chasing 149 to win Gloucestershire made a patient start through Brooks (30) and Irfan (15) who added 63 for the first wicket – aided by a generous extras column. 
 
When both players fell in quick succession it Gloucestershire struggled to build another partnership. When Sahabadeen joined Brook at the crease the home side had slipped to 91-5 and the momentum was with the visitors. But the pair dug in with a watchful, determined partnership which yielded a vital 35 runs before Brook fell for 24. 
 
When Sahabadeen (16) was also dismissed four runs later the game appeared to be back in Devon’s hands. However some gutsy batting from the Gloucestershire lower order ensured that they reached their target with 10 balls remaining as Studley struck the winning runs.
 
After the low-scoring game with Devon, Gloucestershire returned to their prolific ways against Dorset. Brooks and Ahmed helped their side recover from 14-2 with an excellent partnership of 167. Facing persistent bowling on a tricky pitch, both players had to dig in, while still remaining positive enough to put the bad ball away when it came. 

Ahmed fell for 73 from 97 balls but Brooks battled on to reach his second century in three matches. His unbeaten 106 from 152 balls was a study in concentration and resilience as he carried his bat in a team total of 255-4. 

In reply Gloucestershire got an early breakthrough through Syed but had to remain patient as Dorset recovered well. Gloucestershire were unable to take another wicket with the new ball but the home side were kept in check by an impressive opening spell of 6 overs for just 7 runs from Tabraiz.

The Dorset batters looked increasingly comfortable at the crease and added 85 for the second wicket before Gloucestershire’s sixth bowler Sahabadeen made the breakthrough. This did little to slow the home side’s momentum and it wasn’t until Rice removed Elviss for 83 that Gloucestershire got a hold back on the game.

At the other end, the impressive Sahabadeen maintained control and chipped away with regular wickets to finish with 4-32 as Dorset slipped to 176-6. At this point they needed seven an over and despite some entertaining late cameos they finished 30 runs short as the returning Tabraiz (2-21) helped wrap up the win.
 
Gloucestershire face Somerset and unbeaten Hampshire in their final two matches, knowing that victories will guarantee them a share of first place in their ECB group.
