Gloucestershire Under 14 Boys v Worcestershire Under 14 Boys (at Stroud CC)
Friendly
Gloucestershire 299-7 (50 overs)
Worcestershire 224-8 (50 overs)
Gloucestershire won by 75 runs
Scorecard
Tommy Boorman (Dumbleton) hit a brilliant unbeaten 152 to lead his side to a comfortable 75 run win over Worcestershire.
Opening the innings, Boorman carried his bat in a superbly crafted knock that contained 19 fours and two sixes.
His 152 not out was the highest individual score recorded by a Gloucestershire Under 14 player since the introduction of the ECB’s Play-Cricket online platform in 2003. It is also the second highest from a Gloucestershire junior in that period, behind current 1st XI batsman George Hankins who made 179 not out for the Under 17s in a two day match v Somerset in 2014.
The Worcestershire bowlers had no answer as the right hander mixed great composure and concentration with the ability to ruthlessly dispatch anything offline to the boundary.
His innings helped Gloucestershire post 299-7 before they wrapped up an emphatic victory by restricting their opponents to 224-8 in reply.
Boorman was well supported by Sam Brooks (41) (Bristol YMCA) as the pair put on 100 for the second wicket after the home side were reduced to 13-1 early on. There were also important late contributions from Ahmed Syed (18) (Thornbury) and Charlie Brook (13*) (Cirencester) after the loss of regular wickets in the middle order had threatened to reign Gloucestershire back in.
In reply Ethan Corbett (Dumbleton) got a breakthrough in the third over thanks to a brilliant catch at point by Toby Rice (Lodway) to make it 8-1.
Gloucestershire kept the run rate in check but found a second wicket hard to come by as the visitors dug in with a 124 run partnership between Joel Cox (55) and Jones-Beacon (47). But with the run rate climbing to eight an over it seemed like a matter of time before the home bowlers found a way through.
A caught and bowled by Brook ended Jones-Beacon’s resistance in the 31st over to make it 132-3. Despite having wickets in hand Worcestershire never looked likely to threaten the Gloucestershire total. Offspinner Solomon Dark (2-45) (Winterbourne) picked up two wickets, there was a run out for Boorman and Brook (3-47) added two more scalps as the visitors finished 75 runs short on 224-8.
The Under 14s’ first ECB Cup match v Somerset was rained off on 2nd June but they are back in action v Berkshire on 9th June.
Gloucestershire Women v Buckinghamshire Women (at Marshfield CC)
ECB Women’s County Championship, Division 3, Group C
Buckinghamshire 168-4 (30 overs) Revised to 171 due to DLS
Gloucestershire 101-9 (30 overs)
Buckinghamshire won by 70 runs
Scorecard
And
Gloucestershire Women v Oxfordshire Women (at Chipping Sodbury CC)
ECB Women’s County Championship, Division 3, Group C
Gloucestershire 155 all out (48 overs)
Oxfordshire 158-6 (29.3 overs)
Oxfordshire won by 4 wickets
Scorecard
Gloucestershire Women suffered back-to-back defeats over the bank holiday weekend with losses to Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
In a rain-hit encounter with Bucks, the visitors made 168-4 from an innings that was reduced to 30 overs. Helen Cutler was the most economical of the bowlers, going for just 18 from her six overs.
Chasing a target that was recalculated to 171 through the use of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system, Gloucestershire were reduced to 34-6. Chloe Tingle (18) and Sidra Khan (29) fought hard in a seventh wicket partnership of 50 but it proved too little too late as the home side finished on 101-9.
Against Oxfordshire at Chipping Sodbury CC the following day, Gloucestershire again struggled with the bat as the top order failed to fire. Opener Chloe Skelton made 18 but the rest of the top six failed to reach double figures. Once again Khan sought to bail her side out, making 34 from 79 balls coming in at number seven. Cerys King also contributed with an important 25 as the home side battled to 155 all out in the 48th over.
In reply opening bowler Mollie Robbins got Gloucestershire off to a flyer with three early wickets to put Oxon on the back foot. But Abigail Flory (63 from 70 balls) held the innings together and put her side back in control. She fell before the end – caught Abi Whybrow bowled Khan and there were two wickets for King (2-33) but it wasn’t enough to derail the Oxfordshire chase. The visitors eventually reached their target with four wickets and more than 20 overs to spare.
The defeats mean Gloucestershire finish fourth (of six) in their 50 over group. They now move into T20 action with a double header v Somerset and Wiltshire at King’s School Gloucester on Sunday 9th June.
Gloucestershire Under 11 Boys v Oxfordshire Under 11 Boys (at Hatherley and Reddings CC)

Oxfordshire 93-7 (20 overs)
Gloucestershire 95-1 (10.4 overs)
Gloucestershire won by 9 wickets
Scorecard
And
Gloucestershire 125-4 (20 overs)
Oxfordshire 126-8 (19.3 overs)
Oxfordshire won by 2 wickets
Scorecard
It was a case of honours even between Gloucestershire Under 11 Boys and Oxfordshire after both sides won one game apiece in a T20 double header at Hatherley and Reddings CC.
Gloucestershire’s victory came after the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. Wickets were shared between five Gloucestershire bowlers as they restricted Oxon to 93-7 from their 20 overs. Jonty Taylor (Winterbourne) took 2-26 while Pravar Timmarju (Cheltenham) and Herbie Evans (Charlton Kings) bowled economically to record figures of 1-9 and 1-10 respectively from their four overs.
In reply Gloucestershire raced to their target in the 11th over thanks to excellent performances from Hatherley and Reddings trio Bertie Michael (39 not out), James Burton (22) and Henry Driver-Dickerson (25 not out).
Gloucestershire’s defeat was a much more close run affair as Oxon chased down their target of 126 with just two balls to spare. Batting first the home side posted 125-4 with important contributions from Michael (32), Logan Bowden (24) (Thornbury) and Arthur Trotman (29) (Winterbourne).
In response Oxon started well with a strong first wicket partnership but lost wickets at regular intervals through the second half of their innings. The wickets were shared around again with Timmaraju picking up 2-24. Two run outs kept Gloucestershire in the hunt but Oxon finally sneaked over the line with just two wickets left and just three balls to spare.
District Round-Up
Under 13s
Stroud and South Gloucestershire (SSG) got their season off to a flying start with a nine wicket win over Gloucester and the Forest of Dean (GFOD).
On a blustery day at Tockington Manor School, SSG skipper Archie Symonds (Thornbury) won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the victors into bat.
The first four overs passed without incident before Edward Ball (4) (Quedgeley and Hardwicke) was clean bowled by Max Buckingham (1-17)( Carsons and Mangotsfield) to make it 17-1 .This brought GFOD captain Seb Pascoe (Kingsholm) in to join Ronnie Newbury (Gloucester) and together they building a score to defend with a mix of good defence and attacking shots on a fast outfield.
They added 22 before Newbury was caught off the bowling of Austin Strange for a lively 18. Pascoe (30) continued to look confident but he was undone by the first ball of leg spinner Aayan Anis (2-6) (Frocester), playing his first ever district game. With the skipper gone, the rest followed in quick succion as GFOD collapsed to 78 all out, losing their last seven wickets for 11 runs. Winterbourne’s Matt Waters did the damage with a lively spell that produced staggering figures of 5-6 with four of these wickets clean bowled.
In response the SSG openers looked to be confident from ball one but contained by an accurate start from GFOD new ball pair Oliver Workman and Dominic Webb (both Tewkesbury).
The first wicket fell with the score on 23 when the first change bowler Harry Singh (Charlton Kings) produced a remarkable one handed caught and bowled to remove Symonds for 10. But his was to be the last wicket to fall as Harry Hussey (24*) (Frenchay) and Freddie Bennett (27*) (Winterbourne) batted well to see the game home in the 18th over. Scorecard
Under 12s
Cheltenham and Cotswolds (C&C) Under 12s secured a hard fought 15 run victory over Bristol in their first district match of the season.
Batting first, the home side made 114-5 from their 30 overs in the face of disciplined bowling from the visiting attack. Opening bowlers Will Schofield (Bristol YMCA) and Dan Lambert (Lansdown) were particularly accurate both only going for seven apiece with the new ball. But the C & C batsman dug in and reached a competitive total thanks to notable contributions from Barney Mason (21) (Dumbleton), Charlie Thorn (21) (Poulton) and Joe Winder (22) (Bourton Vale).
A wicket in the first over for Isaac Ewles (1-5) gave C&C an early lift, however Bristol soon recovered, led by George Herring (24). He held the innings together as his side reached 71-4 before being dismissed by a superb direct hit from Joe Winder. It proved to be the turning point in the game as the C&C bowlers managed to take regular wickets. Winder took 2-2 from 4 overs and Adam Ryder (Cheltenham) snared 3-6 (Cheltenham) as Bristol were eventually bowled out for 99, giving C&C a 15 run victory. Scorecard
In the other district Under 12 match Anir Sanat (Thornbury) carried his bat with an unbeaten 69 to help SSG to a 64 run win over GFOD. He was well-supported by Rockhampton’s Tiger Sherred-Isles who made 33 as SSG made 142-3 from their 30 overs. In reply Bobby Britto (Gloucester) made 16 and Jack Denly (Hatherley and Reddings) 19 but no one else could reach double figures. Wickets were shared between seven bowlers as GFOD finished on 88 all out. Scorecard
Under 11s
C&C U11s made it two wins from two after hanging on to beat GFOD by a single wicket. Chasing 87 to win held their nerve to secure victory in the 18th over.
Opener Neel Kulkarni (Cheltenham) made 15, while captain Noah Haslam (Poulton) was the mainstay of the run chase with 20. For GFOD opening bowler Oscar Waller (3-25) (Hatherley and Reddings) took the first three wickets to fall and there were also wickets for Joseph Tutty (Hatherley and Reddings), and Charlie Herbert (Cheltenham) (2-15). Earlier Jack Savage (14) and Freddie Hill (16) topscored for GFOD but both were run out before they could turn their starts into big scores. Cirencester’s Arthur Smith was the pick of the bowlers with 3-16 while Kulkarni took 2-6. ScorecardCopyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
