Demolition work on Bourton Vale’s old cricket pavilion started in September Demolition work on Bourton Vale’s old cricket pavilion started in September

Ask Kevin Langley what he wants for Christmas and don’t be surprised if he answers: “A new cricket pavilion.”

That’s because the chairman of Bourton Vale Cricket Club is one of those overseeing the building work that is currently taking place at the club’s Rissington Road.

Work started on their new pavilion on 18th September and Langley’s big hope is that the shell of the new clubhouse will be “wind and water tight by Christmas”.

Work will then start on the fixtures and fittings in the new year and it is hoped that the pavilion will be completed by the end of March at the latest, in plenty of time for the start of the new season in mid-April.

The previous pavilion had been there for 90 years and would probably have fallen down on its own had the demolition men not moved in in mid-September.

The new building will be in the same location as the old one but it will be slightly larger, in order to accommodate an interior layout which has been designed to both comply with ECB standards and to facilitate wider use from other sports clubs, especially in the winter, and to allow the club to maximise revenue.
