Q&A, My sporting life – Timmy Godden, Commoners Cricket Club
Stroud District > Sport > Cricket
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Saturday, 19th August 2017, 09:00
Name: Timmy Godden
Date of birth: 15th December 1958
Birthplace: Abingdon
Schools: Too many, but I ended up at Marling!
Occupation: HM Forces (40 years)
Where you live: God’s Country – Nailsworth, Gloucestershire
Your sport: Rugby Union (religion), Cricket (sport) and Golf (pastime – played to a low standard, in fact lower than that)
Your position: Secretary for Commoners Cricket Club
Clubs: 1 Gloucester’s 2nd XV (three times!) many, many years ago
Best achievement/result and why: Winning the Commoners 8s whilst playing for Slimbridge. As a spectator, watching my son Stevie play cricket. I will always regret not seeing his first ton!!
Style of play: Awful
Best team-mate you played with and why: They’re all special
Best opponent and why: Everyone I have the pleasure to play against
Best manager/coach you played for and why: Corinthians do not do pre-season training or coaching!!
Best thing and worst thing about your sport today: The same – attitude. It’s not all about winning (not at our level anyway). Win with humility and lose with grace no matter what the result. Also enjoy what you do
What is your involvement in sport today? Still trying to make a positive contribution to Commoners Cricket Club
What do you think you will be doing sporting wise in five years’ time? Hopefully, turning out once a season for the Commoners Cricket Club and still touring with an odd umpiring stint as required by the skipper! Washing up after teas!!
