Tewkesbury put in a fine all-round display to defeat Frocester 2nds by 211 runs in the Gloucestershire Division of the WEPL League.

After winning the toss, Tewkesbury captain Tom Allcoat had no hesitation in batting first on a warm day on what looked to be a good batting track.

Openers Jack Brixey and Stuart Tame justified the skipper’s decision with a brisk opening partnership of 60 off 13 overs, before Tewkesbury’s leading run scorer Brixey was run out by a direct hit.

Despite this setback, the other batsmen were able to maintain the momentum with half-centuries from four players – the stylish Tame (53), Warren Deeming (53), Tom Allcoat (70 not out) and Harry Low (77 not out).

While Deeming and Allcoat struck some powerful blows as the Frocester attack tired, it was the youngster Harry Low who particularly caught the eye.

The 18-year-old found the gaps in the field with mature, wristy batting to achieve his first league 50 for the first team.

Low’s unbeaten partnership of 116 with Allcoat enabled the home team to finish on an impressive 316-4 off 50 overs. Dan Huxstep (1-21) and Jock Catto (1-26) were the most economical of the Frocester bowlers.

When it came to Frocester’s turn to bat, they had the misfortune of running into an in-form Adam Brookes, who was to have the game of his life.

Openers Callum Gegg and Harold Senior were both clean bowled by Brookes, leaving Frocester in trouble at 16-2. Tewkesbury’s leading wicket-taker seemed to have the ball on a piece of string and was making the batsmen play with every delivery.

Despite some defiant resistance from Frocester captain Tom Morris (37) and wicketkeeper Dan Cave (27) the Frocester innings never really got going, with Brookes continuing to take wickets at regular intervals.

The seamer, in his sixth season with Tewkesbury, ended with his best ever haul for the club of 7-26 off 10 overs.

After Brookes’ heroics, the tail was mopped up by Luke Hughes (2-7) and the Frocester innings closed on 105 all out off 24.4 overs. This thumping win sees Tewkesbury leapfrog Frocester 2nds into fourth place in the table with one game to play.
