Great Rissington bowl out Woodpeckers for 58

Struggling Great Rissington turned the Division Three title race upside down with a stunning 153-run home victory against high-flying Woodpeckers in the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.
Woodpeckers, who started the day in second place, were skittled for only 58 by George Garratt (5-18 from nine) and Adam Witt (3-12 from 7.5) after Glen Crompton had earlier dominated Rissington’s 211-8 with 110.
Leaders Shurdington also lost, by eight wickets at home to Frampton-on-Severn. And these two results allowed Ullenwood Bharat to leap two places into pole position courtesy of a 29-run away triumph over Slaughters United.
Ullenwood battled hard to total 192, Jitesh Thammisetti (29) and Sushil Thyagarajan (27) top scoring as Jon Malan captured 4-37.
And Kiresh Patel (3-30) then led the charge to the top of the table.
Newent, who were second bottom, climbed out of the drop zone with an eight-wicket home success against Lydney 2nds, opener James Griffiths unbeaten on 56, while Will Cullimore’s 64 not out saw Rockhampton 2nds to an eight-wicket victory away to Frocester 3rds.
In Division One, Westbury-on-Severn remain top despite a 73-run reverse away to Painswick for whom Liam Cotton (74) and Ali Bressington (63) were amongst the runs before Tom Hayward struck with a devastating burst of 4-21.
Kingsholm are now only eight points behind in second following their four-wicket success away to Woodmancote, Sam Wheeler (4-24) and Gavin White (65 not) the stars.
High-flying Cheltenham 2nds came unstuck by three runs away to Cranham while Lydney are back up to third after trumping Redmarley by four wickets, Peter Glynn (4-40) and James Bishop (56) sharing the honours.
There was double disappointment over the weekend for Division Two-bound Gloucester AIW Sports who suffered two defeats, by four wickets at Charlton Kings and then by ten wickets in a rearranged trip to Redmarley for whom James Holland took 5-21 and then hit an unbeaten 52.
Division Two leaders Cam overwhelmed Tetbury by 117 runs, Jake Dolbear hammering 94 and Pete Hall capturing 5-15, while Poulton stay second thanks to a 91-run romp away to Thornbury 2nds.
Rich Lane walloped 100 off only 60 balls before finishing unbeaten on 109, putting on 68 for the final wicket with Tom Clay (four not out) to set up Chipping Sodbury 2nds for a 55-run home victory against their Gloucester City Winget counterparts.
Sodbury finished on 238-9 with Winget then replying with 183, Rob Mozelewski (5-30) starring.
Ben Myatt (4-32 from nine) put Hatherley & Reddings 2nds on course for a seven-wicket win away to Cinderford St John whilst Oldlands were three-wicket winners against Stone.
Hawkesbury Upton are back on top of Division Four following a 37-run success away to Birdlip & Brimpsfield which included an unbeaten 106 from opener Jeremy Westwood.
Previous leaders Witcombe racked up 258-6 at home to Dymock who stormed in by five wickets with eight balls to spare while third-placed Aston Ingham also lost, by five wickets at home to Fairford for whom Will Bowers crashed 87 and took 3-23.
Langford were emphatic eight-wicket victors in the crunch trip to Division Five title rivals Minchinhampton who were rushed out for only 82.
Tim Smith (61 not) saw Haresfield Gladiators to a six-wicket win at home to Painswick 2nds while Tom Brown (4-6), Stuart Luker (3-24) and Alex Oliver (3-28) bowled Tewkesbury 2nds to a 37-run triumph at home to their Apperley counterparts.
One of the biggest innings of the day came in Division Six where Henry Lait crashed 147 (19 fours, four sixes) for Chedworth who overcame Corse & Staunton 2nds on run rate.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
