The scene is set for a game to remember when Premier Two Glos/Wilts leaders Goatacre host nearest rivals Cheltenham on Saturday 2nd September on the final day of the West of England Premier League.

Goatacre remain top following a 101-run success away to Burbage and Easton Royal, and have a 12-point advantage over Cheltenham who dispatched Gloucester City Winget by 111 runs.

With only one team earning promotion to Premier One, every point will be vital when these sides lock horns.

Cheltenham go into the game with their tails up after reaching 235-9 against Winget, Alex Haworth hitting 71, and then bowling out their local rivals for 124 led by Liam Walker (3-14) and James Schofield (3-22).

The top two placings in Premier One have now been decided with Clevedon overcoming Bridgwater by 118 runs to seal second place behind Bath who wrapped up the title the week before.

Corsham’s relegation is also confirmed after an eight-wicket home reverse against Potterne, but the battle to avoid finishing second last and also dropping will go down to the wire.

Downend boosted their hopes of staying up with a terrific seven-wicket success away to Bath, seamer Phil Jackson (5-61) starring with the ball before Callum Loud (69) and Dan Lezar (58) shared a crucial unbroken century partnership.

But there are still only ten points between fifth-placed Bristol and second-last Bridgwater to ensure that every point will count for plenty in the final round of games.

Gloucestershire’s Miles Hammond, who opened, then compiled 114 from 116 balls for Bedminster while Sai Kamuni’s unbeaten 82 helped bring up the win, Neil Pollard finishing with 3-39 from ten.

In the final result of the day, Frocester overwhelmed Lechlade by 179 runs, opener Uzi Qureshi hitting 91 from 95 balls.
