Gloucestershire face crunch 10 days in T20 Blast campaign
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 24th July 2017, 12:40
A lot more light will be shed – literally – on Gloucestershire’s T20 Blast prospects this season over the next 10 days or so.
Three of their next five games are under the lights at the county ground in Bristol – weather permitting – with trips to Chelmsford and Cardiff to play Essex and Glamorgan respectively sandwiched between the second and third floodlit matches.
Gloucestershire host Glamorgan tomorrow, Hampshire on Friday and the big one against Somerset on 4th August – all starting at 6.30pm – before the thrash and bash competition is put on temporary hold while the county play a County Championship Division Two game against Northamptonshire at Northampton, starting on 6th August.
Michael Klinger’s men go into tomorrow’s game as the only unbeaten side left in either division in the group stages – albeit they have only won two of their five games after the tie against Middlesex and two rained off matches.
They are currently second, two points behind Surrey who have played two games more, but before supporters start getting carried away, there are only four points separating the leaders from the bottom club Middlesex in the nine-strong division.
Gloucestershire chief executive Will Brown told The Local Answer on the eve of the season that, “my expectations are that, in the T20 we should be looking to get to finals day”, and having played fewer games than anyone else, they are handily placed to make it through to the quarter-finals – the top four qualify – which run from 22nd August to 25th August. The finals day is at Edgbaston on Saturday 2nd September.
Gloucestershire’s remaining T20 Blast fixtures: Tues 25th July, v Glamorgan (H); Fri 28th July, v Hampshire (h); Sat 29th July, v Essex (a); Thurs 3rd Aug, v Glamorgan (a); Fri 4th Aug, v Somerset (h); Fri 11th Aug, v Sussex (a); Sun 13th Aug, v Essex (h); Tues 15th Aug, v Middlesex (a); Thurs 17th Aug, v Surrey (a).Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
