Will Naish, 13, hits century in Frocester’s win over Bourton Vale

Thirteen-year-old Will Naish is thought to have become the youngest-ever batsman to score a century in the history of the West of England Premier League.

The talented Wycliffe College pupil, who is a member of Gloucestershire’s under-14 squad, hit 103 for Frocester 2nds in a home Gloucestershire division clash with Bourton Vale.

Will shared a stand of 189 for the third wicket with skipper Fin Dixon (117) as their side reached 333-5 ahead of dismissing their visitors for 212 to complete a 121-run triumph on the opening weekend of the league season.

Tim Hancock, the Gloucestershire Cricket Board’s head of performance, said: “It’s a tremendous achievement.

“Will started playing men’s cricket last season for Frocester 2nds and it’s clear he’s in very good hands there.

“He’s a top lad, a very good all-round sportsman and someone who is not fazed at all by playing against men.

“There are a lot of young lads around with the ability to do something like this but actually doing it… that’s much harder so full credit to Will who will probably also be playing this season for our under-15s and under-17s.”
